Featuring a powerhouse lineup of award-winning players — including IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year Maddie Denton — the band combines smoking banjo and mandolin work, rock-solid bass, inventive guitar, and vocals that cut straight to the heart. Their latest album, All God’s Children, showcases the band’s trademark blend of tradition, innovation, and pure fire, earning praise from critics and fans across the country.

Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Johnny Mullenax has been immersed in music since childhood, shaping a sound that pulls from bluegrass, country, rock, funk, and jam-band improvisation. He describes his style as “funky country bluegrass for working folks”—a soulful fusion of fiery flatpicking, raw vocals, deep-pocket rhythm, and the kind of onstage energy that hits you right in the chest.
For our Friday night crowd, expect searing solos, tight grooves, and a performance that sets the tone for the whole weekend—honest, driving, and full of heart.

Hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Debutants are a powerhouse seven-piece string band blending bluegrass, folk, Irish-reel fire, indie spirit, and Americana warmth. Their music weaves driving fiddle and banjo lines with rich vocals and dynamic grooves, creating a sound that feels both deeply rooted and refreshingly fearless.
Onstage, they’re electric — full of camaraderie, instrumental brilliance, and the kind of joyful spontaneity that turns a performance into a shared moment. Last year, they were one of the most talked-about sets of the festival, and bringing them back was a no-brainer. They’re the kind of band that leaves you smiling, dancing, and wanting one more song.
Debutants
Hailing from Kansas City, The Matchsellers are a rollicking, American string-band that formed in 2013 — and over the years they’ve become one of the Midwest’s most original and sought-after acoustic groups.
Their music blends traditional bluegrass and old-time roots with a modern, “art-house” twist — reinterpreting classic forms while pushing boundaries in storytelling, humor, and stagecraft.
With tight harmonies, flat-picking fire, fiddle, banjo, bass (and sometimes puppetry!) in the mix, The Matchsellers’ live shows have a reputation for being unpredictable, hilarious, emotionally vivid, and downright unforgettable.

Returning for their second year, 80 Proof Alice blends heartfelt songwriting, rich harmonies, and an easygoing acoustic charm that feels right at home on the shores of Wilson Lake. The band features Tyson LeSage on guitar and vocals, Jason Riegel — the 2022 Kansas State Banjo Champion — on banjo and vocals, and Aimee Riegel on bass and vocals. Their tight instrumentation, heartfelt songwriting, and three-part harmonies give their sound a warmth that draws you in.
80 Proof Alice brings a spirit that embodies what this festival is all about: community, creativity, and music that brings people together. Their 2025 performance quickly became a crowd favorite, and we can’t wait to welcome them back to the Lovegrass stage.

Tornado Rose blends Americana, bluegrass, country, and folk into an uplifting, roots-rich sound led by the enchanting vocals and songwriting of Brooke Bell. A multi-instrumentalist and award-winning songwriter, Brooke’s voice and storytelling shine with a clarity shaped by her Kansas upbringing.
Born in 2011 after surviving a massive EF5 tornado at Pomona Lake, the band emerged with a renewed purpose and a sound all their own. Today’s lineup features Brooke Bell, Ryan Davidson, Kyle Jacobs, and Josh Bell, joined by a rotating cast of seasoned Kansas players.

Shakedown Strings, consisting of Adam Galblum (vocals & violin), Clayton DeLong (vocals & acoustic guitar), and Rick Willoughby (vocals & upright bass), bring their energy, passion, and joy to the stage. Drawing upon their improvisational prowess and experience as jazz musicians, they celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead and explore the band’s vast repertoire of songs and musical ideas.

His playing is warm, raw, and profoundly human—equal parts front-porch intimacy and back-roads reverence.
